Cardinal Collins has given us permission to extend the distribution of ashes beyond Ash Wednesday, February 17; we have thus scheduled opportunities on Thursday February 18 for you to come and receive the ashes.
Due to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions, we will be distributing ashes according to the ancient practice of dropping the ashes directly on the crown of the head. This will mean there is no touching of the recipient, and is different from the regular custom in North America of marking the forehead with ashes.
Note also that the distribution of ashes will be a brief service, without distribution of Holy Communion. We wish to be brief, efficient and on time so as to ensure everyone who wishes may avail themselves of this opportunity to “Repent, and believe the Good News”.
